Budgiebird88@yahoo.com Note- This is the first fanfic I have ever written. I've been meaning to write one since last year, but never got around to it. By the way. I love Doggett, and think that he is a good addition to the show. Just wanted to make that perfectly clear!!! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* John Doggett stared at his television set. He didn't watch it. He just stared at it. Only one single thought ran through his head. *I died.* he thought to himself. *I was shot in the chest, and I died. Nut I'm still alive. The indian man or whatever ate me and I'm alive. He died so that I'll live.* Doggett pushed himself up off of his couch and began pacing around. He felt as if he was about to break down. That feeling alone was enough to make him even more distraught. John Doggett did not break down. As an ex-marine, ex-NYPD, and now FBI agent, he prided himself on keeping it together. There had never been a time when he hadn't done that, except for that one time when he was caught in a dream. But that was beside the point. That was in a dream. This time it was real. And only he, Skinner, and that woman from Sqashash or whatever the hell the town's name was knew what had really happened. Doggett shivered and wrapped his arms around himself. *I'm in shock* he thought to himself. *That's why I can't think straight. That's why I'm so cold.* He shivered again. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. *Oh no. Not now. Please not now! Cant you leave me alone for now?* he thought to himself. There was only one person that it could be. He made his way to the door, feeling colder with every step. If she was here at this hour, it could only mean one thing. She had found out about the case. The case that she had signed falsified reports for. The case that he had died on. *No!* he thought to himself. *Do not think about that. You don't want to break down in front of her, do you?* He turned the knob. Sure enough, glaring at him from the other side of the door was Scully, his so-called partner. She stalked past him into the living room. He closed the door and reluctantly followed. He wasn't feeling so good all of a sudden. He was getting even colder as well. "What do you need Agent Scully?" he forced out. Why did he feel so sick all of a sudden? "Agent Doggett, I've heard from AD Skinner that you went on a case without informing me. He refused to give me all of the details, but he did say that I should come see you and check if you are alright." Doggett felt his stomach lurch. He didn't want to go through this right now, much less with her. He then realized that he had been staring into space for about a minute. He snapped his eyes down back to her. To his surprise, she looked worried. "Agent Doggett? Are you ok?" Doggett tried to nod, not trusting himself to speak. "Doggett. You have to answer me. Are you in shock?" He nodded. He opened his mouth to form words, but immediately shut it again. He could feel the salty tears welling up in his eyes. *Please God. Not now.* "Doggett? John? I need you to say something. What happened to you? What's going on?" Scully's voice rose an octave. Doggett shook his head. Quickly he turned his head away from her as a single tear began to make its way down his face. *What the hell is happening to me? I'm crackin' up! I gotta get ahold of myself.....* Suddenly, he felt two small hands on his shoulders. Slowly, they turned him until he faced Scully again. She gently pulled down on his head until it lay on her shoulder. "What happened?" she asked in a whisper. In a voice he didn't recognize as his own, he told her everything. Tears ran down his face, and when he got to the part about him dying and then being regurgitated back to life, Scully just hugged him tighter. When he had finished, she rocked him silently until his tears stopped. With a shaky breath, he pulled away and shivered again. "We need to get you warm. Where are some blankets?" Doggett pointed at the general direction of the hallway and plopped down on the couch. He buried his face in his hands. He couldn't believe he had just done that. He had just cried on his partners shoulder. The partner who didn't want him around. The partner who acted as though he wasn't there sometimes. The very same partner who was, at the moment, wrapping him in blankets and telling him to try to sleep and that she would be right by his side if he needed anything. Doggett, in spite of everything, soon found himself deep in sleep. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The next morning, Doggett awoke to find himself in much better shape. Sleepily he sat up and rubbed his eyes and then ran a hand through his sleep spiked hair. "Doggett. How are you feeling?" Scully emerged from the kitchen. She gave him a smile, an actual smile, and leaned over to put a hand on his forehead. She gave him another smile. "I think you're doing ok for the time being. Are you hungry or anything?" Doggett shook his head. "No thanks. What are you still doing here?" Scully sighed and sat down next to him. "Doggett, when you first joined me on the X-Files, I hated you. I think a part of me always will. But last night, when you trusted me with all of your feelings, it just sort of hit me. You may not be Mulder, but you're one hell of a guy." Doggett smiled at this, and rested his elbows on his knees. "Are you trying to tell me that you don't think I'm that much of a jack-ass after all?" he joked. Scully smiled. "I don't think you are Agent Doggett." "Really now. So you're now thinkin' that we might be able to get along?" Scully shrugged. "Let's just say that I've decided to give you a real chance." Doggett nodded his head in mock contemplation. "Just one thing though." "What?" "Just for my own personal curiosity, how long is this gonna last?" Scully smiled once more. "I don't know Agent Doggett. But I suppose I'm willing to work on it. How about you?" Doggett smiled back. "Give a little, get a little Agent Scully. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Did you like it? Hate it? Didn't understand it? Please send me feedback!
