His eyes were red from crying. His body slouched over from mental and emotional exhaustion. Scully smiled in thanks at Monica and bade her good-bye. She sat down beside Doggett. He seemed to start a bit at her hand on his thigh. Soon, however, he relaxed into it, even offering her a slightly fatigued smile. "You should eat something," Scully told him gently. She started to get up, only to have Doggett grab her hand once again. "Please don't leave me," Doggett pleaded. His hand gripped hers a little tighter. Scully instinctively drew Doggett's head down to her shoulder, soothing his quivering body. "Sssh..I'm right here," she whispered. "It's alright." Doggett's body started to relax under Scully's caresses. "That's it," she continued to whisper. Doggett lifted his head to look her in the eyes. For one heart- stopping moment, their eyes locked. Doggett cupped her chin with his hands, slowly bringing her lips to his. They were mere inches apart when the phone rang. "Leave it," Doggett whispered. "I need you." Scully smiled and nodded as her arms went around his neck again. His fingers went to her face again. "You're so amazing," he whispered as he let his forehead rest against Scully's. Scully could hear her heart pounding in her ears as she closed her eyes. Doggett's exhaustion was getting the better of him. Before she really registered what she was doing, Scully gently nudged Doggett to his feet. "Come on. You can lie down in my bedroom. It's a lot more comfortable than my couch would be." "Not without you," Doggett whispered. His blue eyes looked imploringly at her. Scully swallowed the lump that was rising in her throat. Doggett's fingers entwined with hers, making it almost impossible for her to say "No." Scully turned back the covers. Doggett sank into the bed. Scully began to pull Doggett's socks and pants off, not the least bit embarrassed about seeing him in his skivvies. Despite his exhaustion, Doggett managed a chuckle. "What?" Scully neatly folded Doggett's jeans on the chair beside the bed. "Why am I getting the feeling you've spied on me?" Where did that come from? "Spied on you?" Scully was clearly puzzled. Her face took on a pink tinge as a memory of walking in on him half-naked came to mind. Her fingers when to his shirt as Doggett concluded softly," I don't mind you know." Scully's blush deepened as she continued to avert her eyes. Doggett finally had to still her hands to make her look at him. When she did, Doggett kissed her gently. He just needed to be with her. Her eyes stayed closed for a moment after Doggett pulled away. He caressed her face as he watched a shiver course through her. "Come here," he whispered as he pulled her to him. Scully moaned involuntarily when she was in his arms. She shifted so she was a little more comfortable, reaching down to pull the bed covers over them a little snugger. "Dana?" Doggett murmured. "Mhm?" She sighed contentedly as she nestled against him. "Thank you." Scully was awake a few hours later by Doggett tossing beside her. He was moaning a name. It took her a moment to realize it was "Luke".. In his mind, it had been like old times before Luke's death. Luke was riding his bike up and down the street. He was playing with his favorite black Tonka truck. Then suddenly out of nowhere, a faceless figure was pulling Luke out of Doggett's arms. No matter how fast he ran, he couldn't catch up. A fog swirled around his feet and then he was looking down at Luke's lifeless body. Doggett shot up in bed, making Scully sit up with him. She took him in her arms. "Dana.." Doggett closed his eyes as Scully started to rock him. "Sssh...It's alright. I'm here," she whispered. "I saw Luke..." Doggett broke into helpless sobs as he clung to Scully. "Doe...will he forgive me?" "He knows you did everything you could..." Scully soothed quietly. "Was just a little boy..." He couldn't say anymore. His body was racked with sobs once again. Scully continued to stroke his back, at a loss how to comfort him. Doggett's' tears began to subside. He looked up at her. "Am I a bad father?" he asked in a barely audible whisper. The question broke Scully's heart. "No," she whispered. Her hands went to his face, wiping away the tears. "Luke knows you love him. Just like I do..." She didn't even hesitate. Her stroking turned to kisses….which made Doggett turn her over onto his back and start kissing and caressing her body. His ministrations became more and more urgent as first her shirt then her bra, then his pants and her panties came off. Their bodies began to rock in unison. Doggett closed his eyes as he buried himself in her soft wetness. He could feel the tears coming again. Only this time, they were tears of love and happiness. "It's alright, John," Scully whispered between moans of pleasure. "Come for me," Doggett pleaded in a whisper. He could feel how close she was to losing control. He wanted to be the one to push her over the edge. Her entire body was trembling with anticipation. She came loud and long. Doggett followed shortly after, trembling. Scully clung to him as she tried to catch her breath. He settled her against his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around her. "Please don't go," he whispered. For the first time since Luke died, he felt complete, secure. Scully kissed his heaving chest. "I'm not going anywhere," she whispered. Her fingers traced patterns on his chest as she tried to calm him. "Promise?" Doggett needed to hear the words. "Cross my heart." She gently kissed his heaving chest. "Sleep, John. Everything's alright." For the first time since he and Barbara scattered Luke's ashes in the ocean, Doggett felt complete and at peace. He obediently closed his eyes as he continued to hold tightly to Scully. Scully watched the steady rise and fall of Doggett's chest for a moment longer before she closed her own eyes and followed Doggett back into sleep.
