"Reincarnation 1" Author: Gemini_1985 Dana Scully looked up at her Apartment building, it was visually the same from the last few years; nothing about it had really changed…Except her own apartment, she was soon to find out. Stepping up the few stairs to get to the front door, Dana walked through and began to make her way up the stairs that would lead her to her apartment; she didn't want to be seen in the Elevators ~ even though her hair was now a different length and color, Scully had decided to go "undercover" once her and Mulder fled the Country for Canada. Her hair was now a dark blonde and below her shoulders, long and flowing; visibly tame. As she opened the door that would allow her on to her old apartment's floor, she took in a deep breath when she saw the door to her home; a smile took over her face and a feeling of comfort overwhelmed her. Taking out her old key from her key chain, she placed it in to the lock but it wouldn't turn. That's odd, Scully thought, I wouldn't think that they would change the locks…Unless. And she was right, her apartment no longer belonged to her; she looked at her watch to see what time it was because she had the urge to knock, and see who was now living in her home. Seeing that it was leaning towards Midnight, Scully didn't really want to take the risk; she began to feel tears fill up her eyes ~ where would she stay? She knew that she could always eventually call her mother but how would she react? Scully didn't want to upset her mother anymore than she probably already was, she couldn't go to Mulder's apartment either because she didn't have a key no longer; Scully was confused and exhausted. She leaned up against the hallway and sunk down to the floor, covering her face with her hands. There were too many emotions running through her, she already had left Mulder up in Canada with out informing him; Scully had left everything she owned except a few essentials in her purse. She had left Mulder and his quest for "The Truth" because she didn't feel as if they were in the right, Scully knew that Mulder was being trialed for murder in the states but she couldn't go along with him and sneaking around in the mid hours of the night; it was taking a toll on her and she wasn't enjoying her life at all. Scully knew that Mulder would be upset with her but at this point in her life, she didn't care; Scully wondered if he would even realize that she was gone at all! That's just how much they had drifted apart, he wasn't interested in her at all; Mulder was always interested in just finding the truth about her sudden cancerous disease and to find Extra terrestrial life on other planets…It was never Scully's cup of tea but being around Mulder used to make it all worth while when chasing these "aliens…" but not anymore, Scully wanted to live the rest of her life as a happy and working woman; she didn't want to have a life with out her child or a man to love her. As the time went by, Scully ended up drifting off to sleep; she was woken by a younger woman. "Excuse me, ma'am?" the young woman questioned Scully. "Hm…?" Scully replied groggily as her eyes slowly opened, she was startled to see someone standing in front of her so close. "Can I help you with something?" the woman questioned again, "Do you need some help?" Scully gave the woman a half smile, not wanting to seem too suspicious, "Actually…" she said as she began to rise from her sleeping position, "I was wondering who lived in this apartment…?" Scully gestured towards her once owned. "Oh…?" the other woman turned to look at the apartment door, "That's my apartment." Scully took a deep breath, looking down and nodding her head, "I see…" The young woman began to become more and more concerned with Scully's situation, "I'm going to ask this again, do you need help with something?" Taking another deep breath, Scully nodded, "Well I used to live in this apartment." "Oh I see…" the woman looked down and then back up at Scully, "I know that I have to be at work in a few but that doesn't mean that I can't let you come inside for a few; would you like to?" "I wouldn't want to bother you but could I…?" Scully questioned. "Of course," the woman smiled, "My name is Katherine by the way." "Dana, Dana Scully," she held out her hand. "Nice to meet you," Katherine smiled. "Nice to meet you too," Scully returned the smile. "So," Katherine opened the apartment door, "Why did you move out?" Scully sighed as she looked around the now changed apartment, it didn't look anything like hers; it was a mere disappointment, "Actually…" Scully looked over to the other woman, "I didn't." "W…What do you mean?" Katherine was confused. Shaking her head, Scully just smiled and placed her hands on her hips, "I left the area for some time and I just came back recently, I'm sure that my mother put my place up for sale." "Why would she do that?" Now Scully didn't know how to answer this, she couldn't go anywhere near Mulder's situation and how she has worked for the F.B.I., "Well…" she looked down at her watch as if she was late for a date, "Oh gosh, I'm late for a meeting; thanks for letting me take a look around!" she said quickly as she ran out the door and closed it behind her, making her way back to the stairs to walk out of the Apartment building. All she had was her few hundred dollars in American money and her cell phone, she didn't have any transpiration except for Cabs; Scully wasn't found of them but that's all she had ~ she didn't want to leave Mulder up in Canada with out transpiration of his own; he would need it much more than she in a matter of days. Having drove down from Canada in a bus with a fake ID, Scully's muscles were very tight; her back hurt from not having any support while taking that small nap earlier in the morning either. Basically Scully was stuck, she had choices but was afraid to confront them; she could either call a Cab to be taken to her mother's home, show up at some old friends homes, or old partners; Monica Reyes and John Doggett's. Scully really didn't want to show up at her mother's just yet, wasn't sure if she even lived in the same home anymore; she was hoping that she did though because Scully not having her mother around was eating her up more and more each day. It was bad enough knowing that you hadn't seen your mother in a matter of years but not knowing if she was still around in the same area OR even alive, that was extremely frightening. As Scully found a near by bench in front of her old apartment building, she cradled her head in her hands; she was so lost at what she should try and do ~ there weren't that many options since she knew that showing up at someone's doorstep from five years really would be a shock. She yearned for attention though, she wanted love; something that she hadn't been given in such a long time ~ Scully felt that it was overdo now and that it was time that she found someone to really trust, which was hard when you were Dana Scully; there was never a time when she trusted THAT many men. When Scully thought about it, the only man that she had really come to trust WAS Mulder BUT he had turned her down and off; she wasn't being treated the same as he. There were always other options though, next to Mulder was John Doggett; John and she had "tiffs" in the beginning of their partnership but John had proved to her over and over again that he was a reliable partner and friend. So as Scully continued on about what she should do next, she realized that she had deep feelings…deep feelings for no one other than John Doggett. He sat at the edge of his bed, he had just returned home from a long day in Washington; Doggett never knew that taking over Kersh's position would be so hard. John was still in his work suit, shoes kicked off; he was drained ~ wasn't even sure if he could get himself to put something together for dinner, not like Twelve 'o clock midnight was even close to a dinner time; he may as well just make himself some breakfast and not even try to go to sleep the way the time was going. As John began to remove his clothes, he heard a car pull up in his driveway and peaked out the blinds to his upstairs bedroom; a cab was in the drive and so Doggett ran down to the front door to see who the visitor was. Walking to his front door, he took a peak out the side windows; a womanly figure was all he could see since his outdoor lights were off ~ he turned them on though and had to blink a few times to see if his eyes were playing tricks with him, John laughed to himself slightly since he knew that the person on the other side of the door couldn't possibly be…Dana Scully? Opening the door, John tried to keep his heart rate down; he had dreamed of nights like this ~ nights where Dana Scully would show up on his doorstep asking for shelter or a night in his arms, he had to tell him self all the time though that he was just being silly; even if this was Dana on the other side of his door ~ there would have to be a "logical explanation." "John…" he heard as he opened the door fully, trying not to give his hopes up; the voice sounded SO much like Dana's. "Dana…" he said in a low confused voice, blinking at the figure in front of him as he leaned up against his door. "It's me…" the voice said again, almost shaking. Doggett couldn't speak, he reached out to grab the figure by the hands to bring them fully in to the light, "It can't be…" he said softly. Then she spoke again, "It can…" His heart jumped in to his throat as he could finally see that this WAS Dana Scully in front of him, that this WAS the woman that he had mourned when she left with the other man; the other man that John had come to dislike strongly. Fox Mulder had taken Dana out of his life. John had never known how much in love he was with Dana till she was now out of sight and reach. "Don't act like you've never met me, that's all I would need now is to know that you've forgotten me," Scully softly said through tears. John replied with pulling her strongly in to his arms, moving his hands up and down her back to make sure that she was REAL ~ to know that the woman that he had fallen strongly for was now back in to his life. Dana was taken by surprise, she couldn't believe that he was greeting her with such love and happiness, "Oh John…" she said in sobs as she finally broke down, everything from her past just streaming out of her. "I can't…Oh God, I can't believe it," he cradled her head. "I'm so glad that you haven't…that you haven't forgotten me," Scully said again through her tears. "Never, oh God never," Doggett backed away from her and then placed his hands on her shoulders, "Come on inside," he took her hands once more and led her in to his home. "I wasn't sure if you still lived here," Scully said as she wiped at her tears gradually. "I thought about moving a few times, I just didn't think that it was needed; I'm situated here ~ plus I'm pretty good pals with the neighbors, they feel safe having me around too," John said as he took her image in. She felt a bit uncomfortable with him staring at her so intently, in ways she liked it though, "You must be in shock…" "You have no idea," his eyes fixated on all the curves of her body; her tight blue turtleneck sweater was just enough to show off what she had. "I did go through a bit of a change," her arms crossed over her chest. His eyes settled on her hair, "You let it grow out…" "Is that a bad thing?" she locked eyes with his. "No! I was just thinking out loud," John smiled, "You look nice…" "I sense a 'but' coming on." "No, no 'buts'," he laughed. Boy had she missed his laugh, "Good because I'm not sure if I could handle one," Scully finally smiled. "Tell me," John took several steps in her direction, "What have you been through? I can tell that there is something wrong since you don't seem that happy." "Would you mind if I…If I sat down?" Dana gestured towards the couch in his Family room. "Of course," he began to walk her towards the couch, "Is there anything else that I can get you? A drink? Food? Just tell me and I'll get it." She couldn't believe how hospitable he was being towards her, "I…I think I would just like to talk for a little bit, if you don't mind but of course you could be busy; I know that I'm very sorry for popping in on you like this ~ especially at such a late hour, I just…" Dana looked down at her shaking hands, "I just had no where else to go," she finally covered her face with her hands as she cried. John wasn't sure if he should take her in to his arms or just let her be, it seemed like she wanted a great deal of comfort though and anyway that he could have her in his arms ~ he would do it, "It's okay Dana, it's okay; just let it all out…" his eyes closed as he pulled her to him. "I've been through a lot, too much…" she began to shake. "What have you been through?" "It's mainly my fault though, I let him…I…" she choked on her tears. "Who?" "Mulder." Doggett cringed at his name, "What did he do?" "He just, he took my for granted John…I built my life around him and then it just came tumbling down; I should have NEVER given myself so fully to him, he never understood how much he meant to me ~ I could have sworn that he knew though, sworn." "What do you mean that you "gave yourself fully?"" "I loved him, took him in, we were more than friends as you of course know by now; I let him in to my life and trusted him with my feelings and he just…it was as if he used me but I know that's not true, I just…I never appealed to him as much as his quest for "The Truth."" Doggett couldn't believe what he was hearing, how could Mulder do this to her? How could he treat such a fragile soul with disrespect, "He never deserved you," John blurted out, later regretting it. Scully backed away from him slightly so she could look in to his face, "What?" "I'm sorry, please forgive me; I know that I never cared for Mulder and your…your relationship with him," John looked down ashamed at his words. She studied his face, "What do you mean?" "I just had a hunch that he was not a good…" he cleared his throat, "A good man for you." "Well you're right, you were then and you are now." John was surprised at her words, he couldn't believe that she had agreed…Wait, she agreed? Dana Katherine Scully agreed with John Doggett? "Really?" he asked skeptically. "Really…All that has ever happened since I took off with Mulder was pain, I've lost so much." "What have you lost?" "Everything John, everything…" He took her face, "What is " "everything?"" "I loved him, loved him more than I have EVER loved any other man in my life; I gave Mulder my undivided attention, I gave him so much love ~ I gave him my all, my soul…body." Hearing her say that she gave herself to Mulder sexually, that heightened his blood pressure and jealousy, "I see…" "…but what did I get in return?" Scully continued, "A broken heart." Doggett shook his head, he was so disappointed at what he was hearing; he was raging mad at Fox Mulder, "How could he…?" "I ask myself that everyday Agent Doggett, every damn day…I think about everything, everything that I have lost since I've been with him…I've lost my life, John, I lost my son because of his stupid quest; I'll never be able to be a mother again either John…I'll never be able to have another child because William was my little miracle, he was my one and only child and I lost him because of Mulder; I can no longer live as a regular person either. John, I am hiding my identity right now; if anyone in that Bureau finds out that I'm back in this country…There's going to be HELL to pay…I may not be happy with Mulder but I will most definitely NOT rat him out, I'll be asked so many questions that "Twenty questions" will seem like a child's game. I made a big mistake with going with Mulder to Canada, we had to change our names and our whole damn identity; it's not fun for me." Scully looked down and twiddled her thumbs. "Hey," John placed his hands on top of hers, "This may not be heaven, being at my place I mean, it may not be your way of bringing back the way you used to live but I will invite you to stay with me…That is, if you want to. I can provide everything for you, you can stay in the extra bedroom; I swear to you Dana that I will make you safe."
