Title: Reincarnation//Part 11 Characters: John Doggett, Fox Mulder, Monica Reyes. Rated: PG-13 Author: gemini_1985 His eyes slowly opened, the pain from earlier's beating had seared through him; John slowly sat up against the car where he lay. He gently began to slowly stand up, looking in one of the windows of the car to check the damage on his face; dried blood was running down the side of his face and there were droplets now also dried all over his shirt. The worst of it all was his stomach and chest, he couldn't even remember or begin to tell anyone how many times he had been punched in the stomach – John could barely stand up straight. Looking around him, he could hardly see anything; night was drawing and he was fearing for the absolute worse of what was to come. He could see that Dana's purse was still in the car so she either ran off, was taken, or was hanging around the rest stop somewhere; John knew that she was taken though – she would have been right here by his side if everything had been okay and it obviously wasn't, he blinked the tears from his eyes and opened the trunk of the car; John needed light and he remembered to pack a flashlight. Turning it on, he slowly began to scan the area, walking to the restrooms and entering the women's first. He opened up every stall and made sure to check the closet which contained only of cleaning materials. John signed and made his way for the men's room, almost slipping on his way in from what seemed to be nothing other than…blood? "Oh, Jesus," John muttered to himself as he slowly leaned over to examine the pool of blood that led to the sink. John stood back up and watched his step as he opened all the stalls, noticing that there seemed to have been a struggle; the wall at the far back of the restroom had damage – he didn't know that the damage had been from Skinner being thrown in to it, Skinner was no where to be seen either. For some reason, John couldn't understand, couldn't understand WHY they would take Scully and Skinner and not him? The only reason he could think of was the fact that the two of them knew something that he didn't or that Skinner really wasn't who he was when they drove off from the hotel earlier that day. This was going to be extremely stressful for John, especially since there really was no way that he could call out for help; he would be in tremendous trouble – along with Skinner and Scully if the Government had found out what they were trying to do and what they were hiding. There was no way that John could go for help, he had to do this on his own but he wasn't sure where to start. There were no leads, no trails, no notes, no nothing. Walking back to the car after scanning the surroundings, John sadly sat down and locked the doors; his head was pounding and he knew that he had been out a long time from realizing it was night. Scully and Skinner could be long gone by now, where would or when should he start? John didn't feel physically able to search for them at this point in time but he wanted to so badly, mostly wanting Scully back; the idea of losing her…again, it tore him up inside. Could this have been done by Mulder? John thought to himself but why would Mulder leave blood behind? There was no way Mulder could have done this. Doggett turned around to reach for Scully's purse, he opened it to see if she had taken her cell phone with her; he thought that maybe if she had it on her that he could try and find a way to track her down but alas, it wasn't. It was left behind in her purse so that idea was oblivious now. There seemed to be a message on Scully's phone and he had a little bit of hope that maybe, just maybe she had tried contacting him, so he listened to it: "Yeah, Scully, it's me again, Mulder. I have been really thinking over what you had said to me the other day and you're right, I've been a terrible man to you and I need to change; I'm willing to make this work between us. Please call me back when you can." Out of anger, John deleted the message. There was no way he would let Scully hear that, that is, if she ever could be around to. After sitting around for awhile, John had become so stressed that he couldn't blink back the tears anymore; they fell from his crystal blue eyes one by one and on to his shirt. The crying turned in to sobbing and then Scully's phone began to ring, he looked at the caller I.D. and saw that it was once again, Mulder, trying to contact Scully. At first he didn't want to answer it but then he picked it up again and answered, maybe if he explained to Mulder what was going on, he would be able to help him. "Hello, Mulder, this is John." "John? Oh, John." He was silent for a moment, "John Doggett, I should have known that Scully would be with you; how dumb could I have been?" "Listen, Mulder, I really don't have time for your anger on that issue right now but I really need some help…" "What seems to be the problem…Doggett?" Mulder asked bitterly. "Look, I know you're not happy with me or Scully right now but something has happened to her and –" "Happened? What happened?" "Let me explain before questions. So as I was saying, Scully had came down here to stay with me for awhile; she just wanted me to help her out and it had turned out that I guess those…men, the Super soldiers, or whatever you call them, they followed her or they found out that she was back here and we had to leave my place. We were going to try heading up back to Canada but somewhere along the way, which we're, well as far as I know we are, we're in Wisconsin. Now we weren't the only ones that were in on this trip either, Skinner was with us and he went missing about an hour before all of this happened. I was knocked out, Scully went running off, and that's all I remember happening." "Scully ran off? Where did she run to? And where was Skinner during all of this?" "Skinner had went to use the restrooms and Scully and I were…" he couldn't let Mulder know that Scully and him had become more than friends, "...We were talking and this man, which looked like you but then wasn't you and then was Skinner, he came approaching us out of the bushes and Scully tried telling me that it wasn't you or Skinner; I don't understand why I didn't listen to her because God knows that I should have but I didn't and tried stopping him. He didn't stop, she ran off in the direction of the restrooms and that's the last I saw of her." John could hear Mulder sighing on the other end, "And there's nothing that gives you a lead or any sort of idea on what's going on?" "No, Mulder, there's nothing. I scanned the area a few times but I didn't want to go too far out in the woods, I am also in extreme pain and I don't think I can do this on my own." "Alright, well you're going to have to let me know where you are or where you're going to be staying to let me find you." "I think I'm going to try finding some place to stay for the night and I'll give you a call then, just try heading down here as fast as you can." "Okay, I'll get going right away." "Thank you," John said and hung up. Turning on the car, John had to find himself at least somewhere in the area to sleep and shower; it would have to be somewhere close to the rest stop because if Scully was still around here – he wanted to be as close to her as he could. Taking a left turn, John turned back on to the highway and started on a mission to find a hotel. He didn't think there would be any in the next mile so he was disappointed. John still kept his eyes out for a sign though to the nearest town, he could feel his eyes beginning to close as he felt a bit of Highway hypnosis coming on. "C'mon, John, you've got to stay up. Just a little longer," he said to himself. Finally about a mile later, there was a sign for an old run down hotel; it would have to do for now. At least he could have somewhere to lay and have water available for showering. So he turned in to the lot and parked, slowly grabbing for Scully's purse and then stepping out of the car to open the back trunk to grab his suitcase. He checked in for the night and made his way to the room he was given, John prayed that the room looked at least halfway decent without any visitors of the insect kind. Turning on the light, it flickered, he had to hit it a few times to stay on and he sat down on the edge of the partially stained but at least decent bed. In ways he didn't even want to sleep or take a shower because what if he would miss Mulder's call or what if Scully would actually need him to stay awake to find her. But there was only one option at the moment, sleeping, he would have to wait for Mulder to at least give him some back up. Or did he not even want to see Mulder? If Mulder really meant what he said on her latest voice message then Scully could fall back in to his trap and once again John would lose her forever. As John opened his suitcase and grabbed for his own towel to walk in the the bathroom, his own phone began to ring and he suddenly didn't feel as tired as he did; he grabbed it and viewed the caller I.D. Monica Reyes? "Monica?" Doggett answered. "John? Yeah it's me. I have tried calling you at home all night and when I figured that you weren't going to be calling me back anytime soon, I decided to try your cellphone again. It's been out of service for a while, so it said." "Oh, Mon," John sat back down on the bed and began to cry, "There's so much I want to tell you but I'm afraid…" "Afraid of what, John? What's going on?" Reyes asked worriedly. "I haven't been very honest with you with what I've been up to lately and I need you to forgive me but I think I'm really going to need your partnership right now." "Tell me, John, you know you can tell me anything." John paused for a moment and then spoke up again, "It's Scully…Scully and Skinner now to be exact." "Scully? When did Scully come back?" she asked in shock. "It's been a few weeks, she's been staying at my place but she couldn't stay there anymore; there was some…trouble." "What kind of trouble?" "Well, one morning, Skinner – well who I thought was Skinner, came to my door telling me that Mulder called Washington and said that Scully was back in the states; I then went to Skinner the next day telling him that Scully has been with me this whole time. Skinner didn't even say that he stopped over at my place, it wasn't him, and that he had been in Washington this whole time. So we have no idea who this other person was that had come to my door with the information on Scully, but we couldn't let her stay there any longer. We started driving out of state a few days back and we stopped at this rest stop where I am in Wisconsin and all hell broke loose. First Skinner ended up disappearing and then this …well what Scully saw was Mulder and I saw Mulder, too, but it wasn't, and then the man turned in to Skinner and Scully told me that it wasn't Skinner; I thought it was since we hadn't seen Skinner in about ten minutes. This…whoever he was beat me till I passed out and Scully ran off. When I woke up, Scully and Skinner were both missing…" "Oh, Jesus, John…There aren't any leads?" "No," his voice cracked as he began to cry again, "Nothing…Just blood." "Blood? Did you grab a sample of it?" Reyes questioned. "I haven't, no. There's no where for me to go, Mon, I'm in the middle of nowhere and I have no one but…" "But…?" "Mulder. I called Mulder. Actually he called me, well Scully's phone." "And he's with you? You've found him, too?" "I didn't find him, it was Scully he was after because Scully ran out of Canada to get away from him; he wants her to come back and he'd been calling her phone non stop and I saw that everything that belonged to her was in the backseat of my car and I turned it on; that's when Mulder had called." "What did you say to him?" "Everything. He said that he would join me in trying to help me find them because I just don't think I can do this alone." "Where exactly are you?" "Let me see," he took a glance at the phone on the nightstand, "It says, Union Center." "I've never heard of it." "Well I haven't either till I got here, obviously. There's not much to see or say about it either." "Alright, well do you need me? I think that I should head out there tonight if I can." "I don't know, that's all I need next is to find you missing. I really do think that for right now I only need Mulder." There was a pause and then Reyes spoke up again, "I can sense it." "Sense what?" "That you are wanting me there." "If I said no to wanting you here I would be lying. I'm just saying that I don't need you here so you will be safer, you don't need to be involved with this. Just let Mulder and I find them and I'll keep you up to date, okay?" She was disappointed, "Okay, I'll keep my phone by me at all times. Just promise me that if you feel the need for me, that you will contact me? No second thoughts. I know how you are." "I promise, no second thoughts; I will call you." "Thank you. Now what are you doing right now?" "Well I was just about to take a shower and try to get at least some rest but I feel like it might be too late if I sleep, she could be dead right now or suffering…" "Why haven't you found mourning for Skinner? You only seem to be mentioning Scully…You still are feeling for her, aren't you?" "Monica, I haven't been able to get her off of my mind for years. I had become so close to her, she let me in and she trusted me, then Mulder came back and everything was about him. From the moment I met Scully, I knew, I knew there was something special about her and there are just no words for how I feel…And I know that's hard on you, Mon, I'm sorry. I tried to start a relationship with you but it just didn't and won't work. It wouldn't be fair to you for me to be thinking about someone else when I'm supposed to be in a relationship with you. Try understand this, please." "Trust me, John, I do understand. I just don't want to see you suffer like this. If you care so much about her, you need to tell her. Scully is an intimidating person, I understand, but she's a woman and I don't think she would put down your offer." That put a smile on his face, "She didn't." "Didn't what?" "Put down my offer." "You mean, you told her already?" "I didn't tell her, it just…happened." "What happened?" "It was right before the two of them disappeared. I had her in my arms, it was a feeling I couldn't even begin to explain and even though I got to touch her…we were interrupted in other words." "I'm so sorry, John, I can understand more on how much she really means to you." "Don't be sorry, Monica, I let you down, too. Right now though, I need you to stay on guard for me; understand?" "Understand." "I'll get back with you as soon as I can." The two of them hung up their phones and John continued with what he had been doing, he stripped off his clothes and walked in to the bathroom, stepping in to the rusty shower. The warmth and calming feeling of the water relieved some of his stress but he still wasn't fully mellow, John didn't think he would be until he was reunited with the woman that has haunted his emotions and dreams.
