Title: Reincarnation//Part 9 Characters: John Doggett, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner Rated: PG-13 Author: gemini_1985 BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, Doggett's alarm on his watch went off and he rolled over to reach for it on the night stand; rubbing his eyes he sat up in bed and stretched. Skinner and him had been sharing a bed since there were only two and even though he would have loved to accompany Scully in her bed, he knew that it was off limits. John placed his feet on the carpeting of the hotel floor and stood up from where he was sitting, he was only wearing shorts and little did he know that Dana had been watching him through peered eyes. She stared at his naked back and the way his muscles rippled around his shoulder blades as he made his side of the bed, Dana gasped and he turned around; her eyes closed suddenly and he smiled. Reaching for his small suitcase, he took it in to the bathroom with him as Dana pretended to be asleep; John smiled again and closed the door behind him. "Good job," Scully muttered to herself and rolled over to face the bathroom door. She wasn't really that tired anymore, even though she could probably sleep another few hours, John was now up and she knew that at anytime, Skinner would be up too. Scully decided to just wait till John got out of the bathroom so she could get herself ready for the day as well. As she continued to wait for John to come out of the bathroom, a noise had caught her attention; it sounded as if it was plastic bags being ruffled from the fan above. She sat up and looked to where the noise was catching her attention and she was right, it was plastic bags; four plastic bags. Dana didn't remember them being placed in the room before she went to bed, she was curious about them and so she slid out from underneath her covers and walked over to the table by the window to peek inside them. "They're for you," Skinner said as he noticed her presence next to his bed. "Me?" Scully inquired and turned around to face him. "Yeah," he answered and sat up against the bed post, "I told John not to do it but he wouldn't listen to me," Skinner rubbed his eyes and reached for his glasses. Scully opened one bag and it contained a make up compact; which matched her skin perfectly, a stick of reddish pink lipstick, black and brown eye liner, brown lip liner, a set of different colored brown eye shadows, black mascara, blush, nail clippers, tweezers, mirror, and a make up case. "I don't know what to say…" Dana spoke softly. "You don't have to say anything," Doggett's voice could be heard from across the room. Dana turned around, "John, I don't know why you did this; you didn't have to go out of your way –" "Don't worry about it," he smiled and walked across the room, placing his suitcase on the floor next to the door, "I knew that you didn't have any other pairs of clothes with you, I knew that how women are…well I just know how women are and you would end up needing this stuff anyway. Plus I just wanted to do something nice for you. No woman should be without a few pairs of outfits," he chuckled, "Trust me, Dana, it was all from the heart." Shaking her head she looked up at him, "How would you know what sizes I take and what colors to pick out?" "You're forgetting that I once had a wife and a few girlfriends in my life," he answered and opened up the second bag and contained a sleeveless lace V-neck top, a Jersey sleeveless wrap top, a retro flower printed tunic, and a knotted wrap striped top. Scully just stared at everything he pulled out of the bag and shook her head, she had no way of paying him back at this point and she still couldn't believe that he had went out of his way, "I…I…Thank you," she grabbed the sleeveless lace V-neck, "This is beautiful, John, they're all beautiful. You definately saved a lot of washing time for me," she chuckled nervously as he stared at her intently, "What a sweet thing to do, very generous but every expensive." "Expense has no option in this crisis," he laughed. "What's in the next bag?" Dana questioned and then Skinner spoke up. "I think I'll just get ready, we need to get a move on pretty soon if we want to make it to Michigan in one day," he said as he slipped out of bed and grabbed his suitcase from underneath the table. Skinner made his way in to the bathroom and gave John a wink for "good job." John smiled at Skinner as he closed the door and then focused back on Scully, "You're welcome." She continued to open the third bag and was shocked and she had no words for what was inside that bag, lingerie and panties? "Well, you sure don't forget anything when you shop, do you?" "Look I know I probably shouldn't have bought those but it's not because…it's just because they're necessary and I did it out of friendship, so…" The lingerie was definitely something that Dana didn't want to take out of the bag, she peeked through it and then looked up at him again, "How did you know?" "Know what?" "My sizes." John shrugged, "Well like I said, I had a wife and girlfriends once," he cleared his throat nervously and looked around the room. Scully nodded her head slowly, "Uh huh…" "Are you mad?" Dana shook her head slowly as she reached for the fourth bag, "No." Doggett could feel a sense of hostility coming from Scully, he did have a voice in his head telling him that he should pass up on the lingerie but what good is new clothes if you can't have the necessities that go with them? The fourth bag had a pair of Pinstripe trousers, Twill pants with a rivet belt, a pair of gray Classic trousers, and one pair of jeans that slightly flared out around the ankle, "I have to say that I don't really care for rivet belts but the pants are nice, very nice; thank you," she slightly smiled. He moved closer to her and placed a hand on her back, "You're welcome." There was a few moments of silence as she put the items back in to the bags, she couldn't make eye contact with him; there was as if a boundary had been broken when he bought her intimates. She wasn't sure if she could look or feel the same about him, not like that would be a bad thing; Dana just knew that she really had been in love with this man and if this didn't make her fall even harder – she didn't know what else could. Skinner peered out of the bathroom door, he saw that they were still conversing and so he closed the door back up to give them more privacy. "There is one more thing," Doggett said and he reached for it laying on top of his coat, "I realized that the more we go North, the colder it'll probably be, so here," he handed her a blue jacket with a hood. She took it from him, "Thanks," and smiled. "You're quite welcome," he smiled back and took a step closer. Dana wasn't sure if she should take a step forward or a step back. If she went further with what was happening between them, most likely it would end in a kiss and there definantely wasn't enough privacy for that. She didn't want to waste time sitting around in Ohio anymore, she felt as if she needed to get moving or else she could be caught, "I think that we should really get ready to leave, I don't feel very comfortable staying here any longer. If they find us or if they already did, I think we should get going." John nodded his head and watched her small frame wander around the room, all she had on was that Yankees shirt he had given to her and he enjoyed the view when she bent over to reach for her purse that had fallen off the bed, "Skinner should almost be done so then you can have the bathroom to yourself." Turning around, she smiled softly at him with no words and Skinner opened the door, Dana grabbed one of the outfits that John had graciously bought for her and rushed to the bathroom to close the door behind her. Skinner's eyes widened, "Well, she's sure in a rush; what happened?" Doggett sat down in the near by chair next to the table, "I guess I made her feel a little uncomfortable. I shouldn't have done it I guess, bought her clothes. In my mind I thought it would be a wonderful thing to do, it just doesn't feel like it anymore." "Don't worry about it," Skinner said as he sat down on the edge of the bed closest to John, "She's thankful for them, she is probably just really shocked about the whole gesture. She'll change her mind." Sighing, John peered out the window, "We're going to have to switch off driving because both of us obviously didn't get much rest last night. We got here late and I didn't get back till the two of you were already asleep so I'm sure I'll be driving first." "Fine by me," Skinner said and then Scully emerged from the bathroom. "Yeah, fine by me, too," John said and turned his head to face Dana, "Definitely fine."
