Together We’ll Be Fine by Budgiebird Classification- S/D friendship Archives- Just please let me know first! Rating- They say at least one bad word apiece. I think.... Spoilers- Ah, none really. I’m really on a role. Two whole stories and not a single spoiler! yay!!! Summary- Doggett and Scully realize that maybe they aren’t so different after all. Disclaimer- Not mine. I’m too young to have created them! Feedback- I’d really really really really really like it. It makes me *so* happy to know that people actually enjoy my writing, and since school is coming up, I really need help being happy!!! Note- I’d just like to give a special thanx to the anti Doggett site that has my name up as a DSR fanfic writer. Thanx a million, as I’ve been getting more feedback than usual! And nah-nah, no flames. : ) Here’s a little saying for you-- The fox symbolizes a cunning and ruthless animal, usually made out to be the bad guy in fairy tales. The dog is almost always portrayed as the protector and friend. Which one would you choose to love? SUPPORT THE DOG!!! No, I’m not anti-Mulder. I like him as well. Just thought I’d do that and see what happens. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Scully sighed as she looked out the window. It had been nearly a yeas since Mulder had made his hasty departure from her life. Scully supposed she couldn’t blame him, but she did anyway. She gazed over at William, who was trying to pull himself up on the coffee table. She sighed. Why did she have to feel so alone? *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Doggett sighed as he looked around the X-Files office. He had been alone in it for almost a year now. Sure, occasional partners had gone through, but the longest any of them had stayed was a week. Then, he always felt even more alone than before. He had no idea what he was doing. He sighed again and ran a hand through his hair. He hated feeling so alone.... *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~* Scully frowned when she saw the light on under the door to the X-Files office. She hated it when the cleaning crew forgot to turn off the lights. She had planned on sneaking in and taking a look around to see what Doggett had been doing. They hadn’t really talked much, and she knew he thought he would just get in her way. She opened the door cautiously. She blinked when she saw that the room was occupied by a single, weary, disheveled looking person. “Agent Doggett?” *~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Doggett didn’t spend much time at his home anymore. It was too damn quiet and too damn lonely. He sighed. He seemed to be doing that a lot lately. Suddenly, the door to the office opened and in walked.... “Agent Scully?” *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* “Agent Doggett, what are you doing in here so late? Why aren’t you at home?” Scully asked. In truth, she was happy he happened to be in. As much as she hated to admit it, she missed him. Doggett gave a low guttural noise in response to her question. She could have sworn he growled “cause there ain’t no one there.” “What was that?” “Nothin’. Why are YOU here, Agent Scully? Shouldn’t you be home with the baby?” he asked, making a screeching subject change. Scully smiled. “I’m coming back in another week or two, didn’t you know that?” she asked. She swore that Doggett’s crystal blue eyes lit up. “Really? That’s great!” he exclaimed with a smile. Scully found herself staring at him, thinking to herself that she had never really seen him smile. She silently decided that she needed to make him do more of it. Doggett looked down, embarrassed over his outburst. “I mean, if you think you need more time or somethin’,” he trailed off. Scully smiled and shook her head. “No. It’s.......lonely at my house. And William can’t hold a decent conversation or anything like that. I have no adults around really except my mother. Normally, Mulder would be around, but.....” It was her turn to trail off, and she noticed Doggett watching her carefully. She had read his file. She knew that he knew what she was going through. He had lost nearly everything in his life. Suddenly it hit her. He would be the perfect person to talk to. Oh well. Better late than never. She drew in a breath. “How did you do it?” she asked quietly. “Do what?” “Survive.” Doggett averted his gaze again. He knew that she was referring to his son and his wife. He also got the feeling that this was her way of trying to connect. He shrugged. “You just do.” he said simply. “Friends help a lot as well.” Scully looked down. “Sometimes I think I’ll never feel the same again.” Doggett came over to her and placed a hand on hershoulder. “Nah. You’ll get through. it never completely goes away, but like I said. it helps to have someone to relate to.” Scully smiled at him. ‘You know,’ she thought to herself, ‘I think that together we’ll be fine.’ They smiled at each other again. “Wanna go for a drink?” Doggett asked tentatively. Scully gave him a big smile. “Sure!” she told him. Doggett gave her a killer grin, grabbed his coat, and together they made their way out of the office.
