Noromo Comments
"It's so easy
to jump into bed. Who needs to see that? That happens
on every show. What's so hard about having sex? It's
the same thing as nudity . . . big deal. It's better
to have two people who are actually interested in
each other beyond that. The easiest thing in the world
is to be attracted to somebody. It's harder to actually
live with them and work with them. And that's a fact,
Jack." - David Duchovny

or Doggett and Reyes.

Emphasis in people's perspectives of
television shows always seems to be either very (1)
focused or (2) obsessed with romantic relationships.
I know that I 'ship pairings (unconventional) within
"The X-Files" series, but when I strip the
show down to what I enjoy the most about the series
it is NOT about the possibilities of who is screwing
who, who says "I love you" to whom, yes,
theorizing about what could be, is very different
than actually basing one's love of a television series
solely on whether or not one's favorite relationship
pairing actually happens. To me, for "The X-Files",
romance was never what the show was about. An early
promotional trailer for the show states "two
FBI agents", which signifies that this show wasn't
about love, lust, and romance, but rather a show that
was unlike any other before or after its existence.
"The X-Files" was/is (this can be argued)
about FBI agents investigating unexplained phenomena,
uncovering government conspiracies, and knowing who
to trust and who not to trust. Even if you watch the
series (without influence of the majority of the fanbase)
you do not see a romantic relationship between Mulder
and Scully (and in the later years, Doggett and Reyes)
even develop. Anything that happens that 'shippers
consider "proof" of a relationship happens
without even bluntly stating that "yes, Mulder
and Scully are madly in love with eachother and boink".
Until the second movie came out, the question of their
relationship was still up in the air. But that's beside
the point. My point is that even though the 'shippers
don't see that the romantic relationship between Mulder
and Scully ruined the show, that it did, in fact,
ruin it. The most disliked seasons of the series are
the two seasons in which the 'shippers consider Mulder
and Scully in a romantic relationship. Ratings dropped
in those two seasons. The second movie, "I Want
To Believe", where Mulder and Scully live together,
share a bed and kiss... was nowhere near the Blockbuster
hit that the first movie, "Fight The Future",
was ten years before. If the romantic relationship
between Mulder and Scully was (as some claim) the
heart of the show, then why is it that the least favorite
seasons of the series and the last movie lacked in
audience viewership and enjoyment?

The X-Files is not about a tender-loving-living-in-suburbia-or-something-like-it
show that we had to suffer through in "I Want
To Believe". Mulder and Scully are FBI agents
- partners in search of the truth to expose a government
conspiracy. Romance in the sense of mushy-mushy is
not a pivitol element to a good, old fashioned conspiracy
story. Mulder and Scully care for each other - that
is evident - but to have such caring feelings exploited
into out-of-character "wanting to please the
seemingly mass audience" type of writing is weak
to the true story of "The X-Files" and the
mythology. Before Ten-Thirteen Productions decided
to have Mulder and Scully in a lovey-dovey relationship/romance,
the show was strong - look at season 4. After the
decision to butcher the essence of their story telling
by hooking them up romantically, the story and the
mythology suffered greatly and was completely lost.
For this reason, I do not support a relationship between
the two main characters of the series.

Well, actually I'm not really a fencer
or a shipper or a noromo. I'm at the point where I
don't really give a crap. I WAS a shipper. Hardcore,
la-di-da. But then I became a fini and a skipper.
But if you really want a straight answer: I don't
give a crap. I'm just so sick of it all. I mean the
show would be different if Mulder and Scully didn't
have the relationship that they have, but I have to
tell you : IT'S REALLY NOT ALL THAT IMPORTANT FOLKS!
I mean, what Mulder and Scully do in their bedrooms
is purely their business...whether or not it's separate
bedrooms or not. I mean, I suppose if they got together
AT THE END OF THE SHOW it wouldn't be all that bad.
But, if they don't get together I won't go and shoot
Chris Carter. I mean if CC is dead when the show ends,
and M+S hadn't gotten together, I think that the main
suspects will be the shippers. Though, I'm leaning
toward Noromodom, I'm not bloodthirsty. That's my
name for them. The Bloodthirsty shippers and bloodthirsty
noromos.
04) Sai
I'm a Noromo because I believe it would
not only compromise the integrity of M&S's relationship,
but it also detracts from the storyline when the show
gets shippy-focused.
05) Brit
Because The X-files would become a soppy
soap if M&S were to get mushy. It would be as
bad as Sunset Beach :-P
06) Minnie
Well, the X-Files is a sci-fi program
and not soap opera, so smoochie smoochie is NOT part
of it. And I don't even see a love relationship in
the characters!
07) Cal Buzzyear
They're not right for each other. Yes,
they love each other. You can't go through what they've
been through and not love, but they're not in love
with each other. They're too different. Their beliefs,
their likes, dislikes, habits. Take Arcadia for example.
Mulder isn't housetrained enough for Scully's tidy
little world. In X-Cops, Scully was mortified with
embarrassment when she realised she could be associated
with Mulder's "crackpot" theories. They
are best friends. They have a bond that goes beyond
most relationships, but when it boils down to the
basics they're just not right for each other! Can
you imagine the domestic routine? Coffee and toast
and kisses and hugs for breakfast and a face hugging
alien monster for lunch!(That would be an X-File all
to itself!)
08) Lea
I think having Mulder and Scully together
would completely ruin the show. As would Scully or
Mulder being with anyone else, but it's fun to write
some fanfic about them getting it on with other cast
members.
09) Wolfie
Admittedly I was once a Shipper. I was
converted to 'Noromoism' if you will, awhile back
when it dawned on me what the show would be like if
Mulder and Scully got together. It wouldn't be a show
I'd want to watch that's for sure. Once we take away
the respect and friendship of Mulder and Scully, replacing
it with romance and lust we get nothing but a soap
opera. I loath soap operas and T.V. shows that undermine
my intelligence as a viewer and a person. I enjoy
getting my 'little gray cells' challenged, not disgusted.
That's my story and I'm stickn' to it!
10) Karen
*Sigh* There was once a time, in a land
quite close to here, when NoRoMos were the majority
and googly-eyed shippers spouting about "LoooooooUUUuRVe!"
were a joke! And they were called blind, and possibly
mentally ill. I started watching for the same reasons
as most NoRoMos- the mysteries, the great intensity,
the bravery of having attractive leads in a platonic
relationship. I stuck to my guns ever since. And now
I'm left with people calling me blind.

Oy...well...in the beginning I was a Fencer
because I thought Mulder was seriously...ahem...messed
in the head (loveable, but seriously mind*bleep*ed and
emotionally stunted). But he and Scully seemed to love
each other anyway, so I eventually became a 'Shipper.
(Though I still managed to write probably the most negative
MSR story in the world, "And So I Stay." )
But then Doggett came along. Oh my! Here was a man who--despite
not the best of starts in terms of winning over the
new partner--quickly proved himself to be NOT messed
in the head (no emotional growthplate damage there,
baby!)...and all of a sudden all the doubts I'd had
about the M/S relationship cropped up all over again.
So...well...now I'm sortof a Fencer with Shipper instincts
but Dipper preferences. And I would dearly love to be
convinced that M&S *are* just platonic friends,
'cause that'd open the way for John to win Dana's heart.
;-)

I guess I never saw the romance between
Mulder and Scully. I saw/see an intense partnership,
a deep frienship, and a platonic love.
13) Juliette Mada
The way that 1013 force-fed us the whole
MSR thing during the last few seasons pissed me off
to no end. Plus, in case you haven't noticed, Mulder's
not the most stable person in the world. Not the best
guy to have a kid with(Scully!). But, Doggett, on the
other hand, doesn't get on my nerves and is of sound
mind and body(!). So, great match.
14) mulderbee
I'm a MS Noromo, because romance has nothing
to do with the X-Files. Mulder's too obsessed with finding
aliens & Scully's just along for the ride. So nothing
doing, so they won't have any time with each other.
15) EVE
i think that the X-Files is about THE
X-FILES and not the mushy realtionship between Mulder
and Scully. I think thats its horrible that they got
together at the end, just for the ratings. It changed
everything about the show. First they were best friends,
and people liked to watch them because they didnt just
jump into bed together in the first episode. But then,
seemingly out of NOWHERE, they are all over each other!
That is not what made the show what it is....also, Doggett
just plain doesn't love Reyes....and I dont think that
they would be right for each other, anyway, not when
he still cant not blame her for Luke's death.
